About Menorca

The setting for your Menorca Singles Painting Holiday

Menorca is the most easterly, second biggest and greenest of the Spanish Balearic Islands.  It is not as mountainous as it's close neighbour, Mallorca, and is far less developed.  Menorca has a unique and addictive charm that brings people back year after year.

About Menorca

The southern coast is a series of low cliffs, broken by enchanting sandy coves.  These are usually backed with evergreen woodland and lush gorges, which are full of flowers during the spring.  The northern coast is more rugged, with spectacular headlands and a specialised coastal flora that benefits from the slightly more fertile top soil.

The Hoopoe, common all over Menorca

The island is also blessed with several wetland areas, which serve as a haven for birds.  Along with the comical Hoopoe, which lives here all year, Menorca has an abundance of both migrating and endemic species.  These include Warblers, Crests and Wagtails of all descriptions.  We also regularly spot Bee Eaters whilst out painting.

Menorca History

Menorca has a rich and colourful history, which has been influenced by nearly every major European civilisation during the last 4000 years.  The Port of Mahon (the second deepest natural harbour in the world) has always been sought after for it's strategic importance.  We can still see evidence on Menorca of the Roman, Moorish, English and French occupation of the island that have taken place over the centuries.  Menorca can also boast the largest concentration of pre-Christian monuments in Europe.  The island is full of ancient monuments, some of which are over 4000 years old.  One of our painting sites is actually a 3500 year old Talaiotic village.

All in all Menorca has something to offer whatever you're looking for.
