About Mallorca
If you enjoy being in the mountains, with wonderful views in all directions, you'll love walking on the stunning Spanish Balearic Island of Mallorca. Mallorca is one of the best known destinations for walking holidays in Europe and within 10 mintues of being on the island, it's easy to understand why. The island offers diverse scenery, from dramatic mountain views and rocky coves, to deep gorges and picturesque villages.

Our walks mainly take place in the Sierra Tramontana mountain range, which has always been a magnet to painters, musicians, poets and, of course, people who love the great outdoors. The famous composer, Chopin, actually lived in this area and was inspired to write his most famous works whilst here. Historically the island is hugely diverse and evidence from 3000 years of various occupations and conquests is easily found. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans amongst others have all call Mallorca home over the milleniums.

As with other Mediterranean islands, Mallorca is a magnet for birds wishing to rest during spring and autumn migration periods. What makes Mallorca even more special are the huge protected wetlands on the island. These marshes attract a wide range of endemic and migrating birds and, during the spring and autumn, we can expect to see ducks, terns, gulls, herons, egrets and many other wading birds. In addition, Mallorca is home to such species as the Black Vulture, Eleonora's Falcon, Audouin's Gull, Moustached and Marmora's Warbler.

The island is also home to over 1300 varieties of flowering plants. These include the Balearic cyclamen, giant orchids and the delicate bee orchid. Spring and early summer are the time to see them in all their glory, but autumn can also be a good time to catch some species.
